Who We Were By Kelly Elliott

wwwreleaseday

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00074]
My Papai always said wine made everything better. Countless times he uttered those familiar words to me— “The Merlot will melt your problems away meu amor. With a good bottle of wine in your hand, you hold the magical key to anything you want.”
I believed my father whole heartily, until my world came crashing down on me at twenty-four years old.
It wasn’t going to take wine to help Brody and I find our way back to one another. It was going to take fighting … not only for our love—
But for my life.

My Review:
So let me start by saying how much I LOVE Kelly and her work. I first fell in love with her because of the Wanted series. This book is completely different than any of her other work she has ever done. It is one you can tell by her writing is a very personal story for her. It is very hard for me to write this review due to the nature of this story being such a huge personal topic of mine also. I really feel that Kelly did this story justice. I Don't want to give anything away from the book but I will tell you this. It is one of the most heartbreaking books that I think she has ever done. Despite everything that this young couple go through they somehow find a way to find hope, love, laughter and even some anger. So throughout this book I looked at and tried to invasion how I would react to what they are faced. I couldn't image going through the heartbreak and facing it the way these two did.
So having such a hard time writing this review I have to give it a rating of
4 1/2 STAR

wwwteaser2   Her eyes met mine, and I swear I’d never felt my stomach twist and turn like that. She was gorgeous. Dark brown hair pulled up neatly on her head, green eyes that danced with excitement, and skin that looked like it had been kissed by the sun. When I accidentally brushed my hand across her shoulder, my entire body caught fire. It only took me a few minutes to get myself back under control so I could speak to her, but the jerk sitting across from her started talking to her. “So, Brynlee, what are you getting your degree in?” he asked. Brynlee smiled politely, but I got the feeling she didn’t want to talk to him. “Business management.” Bingo. My cue. “Really? Same here,” I cut in as I turned to Brynlee. “Well, chemical engineering with a minor in business.” Brynlee turned and looked at me with the sweetest smile. I actually had to concentrate on breathing while I looked at those beautiful bee-stung lips. “Wow, that’s impressive. I wonder if we’ve had any classes together?” Hell no. I’d remember seeing this beautiful creature. “Must not have.” Keeping the grin on her face, she shrugged. “Well, some of those classes were huge. You could have been in the back or something.” I lifted my beer and took a drink as Brynlee’s eyes fell to my lips. Setting my beer back on the table, I gave her a panty-melting smile, ensuring to show my dimples. She seemed to like them. Her breath caught every time she looked at them. “I’m pretty damn sure I’d have noticed you if you were in any
of my classes, Brynlee.”

My Review:
So This is the first book that I am reading by this author. I must say that when I signed up for this I didn't know who the author was what it was about or anything of that nature. But once I got this book and started reading it I couldn't put it down. I was quickly addicted and couldn't wait to find out what happens. I will say that the ending of this book shocked me and left me wanting more as it will for everyone.

Excerpt:

Watching movers pack away his things and throw them into the truck is so impersonal. Tossing the boxes into a truck with no thought as to what they are handling. I wish I had the strength to be the one who packed it all away, but I couldn’t. It was hard enough to pack up my things. I moved my stuff out of the home two weeks ago, but the majority of everything in that home was his.

He was my other half. My soul mate. One morning, we were completely in love and talking about starting a family, and then by nightfall, I had found my boyfriend barely alive in the storage room of the bar I owned. I rode with him as he was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, praying he would pull through even though the look on the paramedics’ faces told me otherwise. After what seemed like forever in the waiting room, doctors gave me the news he didn’t make it. The police questioned me extensively, and later that night, I came home to his empty house. From that day on, I have been on autopilot.

Millie Robbins had done the love and marriage thing, and all she could say was that she got a beautiful daughter out of the entire debacle. Dropping his hands on his hips, Mack looked at the clock hanging above the plasma television.  It was already half past five.  She was expecting him by six.  Since she only lived ten minutes away, he had plenty of time.  Dropping into the leather recliner in the corner – the one where he sat and read at night – he dropped his head back against the chair.  “Fuck,” he groaned out loud.  He didn’t know whether he dreaded tonight or was excited by it.  It had been years… literal years… since he’d taken a woman out on a date.  Sure, he’d fucked women more recently than that, but those were chicks he’d picked up in a bar or at a medical conference ... women that he’d had a few hours of shameless fun with before sending them on their merry way.  Each one of them had been carefully selected and knew the score before their clothes had ever come off.  If any of those ladies had been interested in more than the number of orgasms he could give them, he’d sent them off on their way with a wave and a smile.
Because he didn’t do long-term relationships anymore.  He certainly didn’t fucking date.
Except, now, it appeared he did.
What the hell kind of voodoo magic had Millicent Robbins worked on him when he wasn’t looking that now had him contemplating more than a casual fuck with a woman?
Because he knew it could never be casual with Millie.  And not just because she had a kid, either.
No, Millie was the type of woman with whom a man put down roots.  That kind of guy bought a house.  That type of man would get a dog.  That man would help her raise a family.  Holy shit, he’d already done two out three of those things, he realized with a horrified gasp.
Bolting to his feet, he darted toward his phone.  He had to call this whole thing off before he found himself shackled to yet another woman that would end up hating him for his dedication to his job.  He had to cut Millie loose before she looked at him and accused him of wasting the best years of her life waiting for him to be ready to concentrate on them instead of rushing off to take care of his patients.
He’d dialed the first three numbers of her phone number before he realized….
“Millie isn’t Tiffany,” Mack said out loud as he stared at the phone in his hand.  Looking toward his Newfoundland dog, he grinned.  “She’s nothing like Tiffany, is she?”
One sharp yap from Nugget confirmed what he already knew and he slowly replaced the phone on its base.
“Holy shit,” he whispered, sinking onto the couch as he stared at his huge long-haired dog.  “Millie couldn’t be more different from Tiff if she tried.”  First off, Millie wasn’t injected with as much plastic as a Barbie doll.  Her tits still bounced when she walked, unlike his ex’s that sat like stone against her chest.  Millie loved babies and kids.  Hell, she even had one of her own that she loved with a passion that rivaled any parent’s love he’d ever seen.  Tiff, on the other hand, couldn’t stand babies.   Sad, since he’d loved children and had wanted them to have at least a couple of their own. She despised the idea of having to be responsible for another person.  Although, in hindsight, he supposed it wasn’t really shocking since she could barely accept responsibility for the things she did.  Most important of all, though, was the fact that he could never see Millie being unfaithful to him because she had something his ex-wife had always lacked.  Something called integrity.  If Millie wasn’t happy with him, she wouldn’t troll the local bars looking for an easy hook-up to dull the pain.  Hell, no.  Millicent would march right up to him, rip off his scrotum, and shake it over her head much like the Native Americans did when they’d taken a scalp from an enemy.   Oh, Millie would probably give him the opportunity to make things right with her before she resorted to violence, but if that was unsuccessful, he had no doubt she’d go the other route.
His Millie could be a firecracker when crossed.
Fuck, now he was thinking of her with highly possessive pronoun usage?  He was well and truly screwed.

Review:

Let me just start out saying how much I love this series and this author. I came upon this series and author by accident but I quickly became a fan.
This book has so much to it. Laughter Fun sexiness Sweet heart warming moments and of course a little bit of drama. I have been intrigued with these two characters from the very moment they were introduced into the series. You could tell there was off the charts chemistry with them from page one. What you have is a grumpy single doctor with a sassy mouth single mom for a nurse. Put these two together and you have a recipe for some off the charts chemistry that you wish for in real life. The child in the story is just as much apart of the story as the adults. And let me tell you she is just as sassy as her momma if not more.
If you like a romantic comedy with off the charts steam than this is a whole series you would want to read. Be sure to check it out. I cant wait for the rest of the series to come out!!
